FAQs

QHow long does it typically take to get a service technician to come out and repair my garage door?

ABelieve it or not, we do most repairs with in 24 hours. If you call us early in the morning we can usually get a repair person out to your home the same day and if you call later in the day we can usually show up the following day.

QCan I paint my garage door?

AMost steel garage doors can be painted with any high quality exterior latex paint. Do not use an oil based paint. Note: click here for important information regarding the painting process for a Coachman Collection garage door.  Wood garage doors must be painted/stained on all sides prior to installation. Most models are available factory primed.

QI do not have standard size door openings. Can you create custom garage doors to fit my needs?

AStandard door widths are 8′, 9′, 10′, 12′, 14′, 15′, 15’6″, 16′, and 18′. Some models can be custom ordered in 2″ increments (8’2″, 8’4″, 8’6″, etc.). Please call us for custom garage doors width/model availability. Standard door heights are from 6′ to 8′ in 3″ increments, except for 7’3″. Most residential garage doors are now available in extended heights up to 12″.

QWhere can I buy garage door parts and decorative hardware?

AWe sell a wide variety of parts and hardware and if we don’t have the part you need in stock we can order almost anything.

QDoes my garage door require maintenance?

AYour garage door is the largest moving part on your home, and perhaps the hardest working, being raised and lowered an average of six times per day. Like any other area of the home, it needs regular inspections and maintenance. We suggest that you perform the recommended garage door maintenance as listed in your installation manual on an annual basis. If you don’t have your manual feel free to call us.

QI scratched my garage door. Is touch-up paint available?

ATouch-up paint is available for nearly all of our garage door models. Call us or stop into our showroom.

QWhat horsepower garage door opener do I need for my garage door?

AGenerally, a 1/3 horsepower opener is sufficient for a single-car garage door. A 1/3 or 1/2 horsepower opener is recommended for some of the heavier two-car garage doors. A minimum 1/2 horsepower is required for the heavier carriage house style wood garage doors. If you are installing yourself, remember to reinforce the garage door prior to attaching the garage door opener.

QWhat safety features do you offer/recommend for families with small children?

AWe have doors with a wide range of safety features including photo electric eye sensors, auto reverse system, anti-drop systems, pinch-proof panels and other safety features.

QWhat areas do you service?

AWe service the entire Lehigh Valley and a large portion of the surrounding areas. This includes Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Trexlertown, Whitehall, Quakertown and just about everything in-between.

QI am building a new garage; what size should the rough opening for my garage door be?

AThe rough opening should be the same size as the garage door you wish to purchase. The garage door fits against the opening from the inside. The rough opening should be finished with an exterior perimeter seal or stop molding to seal out rain and wind. For more information, please refer to the Preparing the Opening file listed on our Installation Manuals page.
